Therapeutic Photography is the practice of mindfully taking new images or analyzing old ones with the goal of elaborating complex thoughts and emotions. Photography is a tactile and sensitive practice in which we share our view of the world, it is how we attempt to document our lives and preserve memory. Going over an old family album or photos from a particular time in our lives can be a very healing experience where traumatic memories are also attached to the images. We are not often in control of who photographs us and how, in childhood for instance and yet we often rely on family albums to tell us who we are and how things were.

I have worked alongside therapists and specialists in counseling to explore how photography can be an immensely restorative practice and help us heal from past or present traumas and difficulties.
